Good Trailer Buyers’ Guide: Which Good Trailer is Right for You?

A Good Trailer in an Urban Environment

Trying to decide which Good Trailer might suit your needs? Finding the right trailer can be challenging, so we put this trailer buyers’ guide together to help you narrow down your options.

We’ll look at how you use your trailer and where you use your trailer to make sure you’re 100% happy with your next Good Trailer purchase. Then you’ll be ready to work hard, play hard, or party hard!

Table of Contents

Heavy Equipment

Need to move backhoes, ATVs, scissor lifts, forklifts, generators, or anything that’s especially tall? You’ll want one of our flatbed trailers outfitted with our Stake Pocket package for extra securement and stability.

The size you choose will depend on the size of the equipment you’re moving. For many, a 13’ will be plenty. But if you’re routinely hauling large, delicate equipment, you might want the extra room and freedom provided by a 19’.

Flatbed Trailer Recommended Add-Ons:

  • Portable pump – The trailer’s hydraulic pump is located in one of the two toolboxes located at the front of the trailer. A portable hydraulic pump lets you free up that second toolbox.
  • Winch – Attaching a winch to your trailer lets you pull heavy vehicles or other large equipment onto your flatbed.
  • Spare Tire – Here’s an add-on we recommend to basically everyone for safety’s sake!
  • Battery Charger – Charge your trailer on the go. Add a power inverter with an extension cable adapter to easily top up battery power from most standard outlets.
  • D-Ring Stake Pockets – Add four secure anchor points to the corner of your flatbed so you can tie your cargo down and keep it stable.

Small Goods

Hauling boxes, furniture, appliances, or concert gear on the regular? It’s time to upgrade to a cargo trailer. We would again recommend either our E-Track or D-ring packages to give you additional power to secure your gear.

Whether you choose aluminum trailers or heavy-duty trailers will depend on where you do the vast majority of your driving, as well as on personal preference.

However, if you are a true “Small Haul” enthusiast, the GT09AL offers plenty of power in a compact package.

Recommended add-ons for the GT09AL:

  • Portable Pump
  • Winch
  • D.O.T. Certified Windows
  • Spare Tire
  • Battery Charger
  • E-Track Package – this add on provides flexible securement points on the floor and walls of your trailer.
  • D-Rings – A cost effective way to add four securement points to the floor of your trailer.
  • T-Slots and Bumper Guards – Protect your most valuable cargo from bumps and jostling, or hang shelving inside your trailer.

Security Needs

Do you anticipate having to leave any goods in your trailer unattended for a long period of time? You can lock cargo trailers. Thanks to our hydraulic drop deck system it’s just as easy to load a cargo trailer as it is to load a flatbed.

Some cargo trailers even let you load your most important gear while leaving space for you to catch a nap!

Highway Driving

Routinely rolling over Interstates, state highways, and city surface streets? Our lightweight aluminum cargo trailers will help you save some gas mileage while providing a smoother tow.

These trailers reduce curb weight without sacrificing strength or durability, which means you have the power to increase your load capacity—remember, the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) includes both the weight of the trailer and the weight of your cargo.

Visit our Aluminum Trailers page for a full list of recommended add-ons, as well as for details on all of the available models.

Rural Driving

While our aluminum trailers can handle almost anything, sometimes it’s good to enjoy a little bit of extra toughness.

This is especially true if you’re routinely off-roading or are delivering cargo to under-developed areas with dirt or gravel roads. At that point, you might want one of our heavy-duty trailers.

Our heavy duty trailers use all-steel galvanized framing to become as rugged as a shipping container, which means they’re built to go anywhere you need to go.
